ORIGINAL: 10:55 a.m.
After the Okanagan Connector was closed for much of Friday afternoon due to heavy snowfall, a crash has closed the westbound lanes of the highway Saturday morning.
DriveBC has received reports of the crash near Brenda Mine Road. Emergency crews are en route to the area to assess the scene.
The crash comes after more than 45 centimetres of snow fell on the highway Friday, during the first winter blast of the season.
The highway was completely closed at about 2 p.m. Friday due to the treacherous conditions, but it was reopened at about 8:30 p.m.
Webcam footage of the Okanagan Connector Saturday morning shows the highway is still covered in snow.
Motorists on the Coquihalla Highway have also warned of extremely slippery conditions coming into Merritt, with northbound traffic moving at a snail’s pace for the 10-kilometre stretch south of Merritt.
