Rumors of Cioni’s involvement in the case began when former NewsNation host Ashleigh Banfield claimed that Savannah’s brother-in-law had been identified as a person of interest.
An additional statement from the Sheriff’s Department read, “While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”
Who’s Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law, Tommaso Cioni?
Tommaso Cioni is Annie Guthrie’s husband. The couple married in 2006, and they have one child together.
Annie was the last person to see Nancy, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. “We have a start point,” Nanos told Us Weekly. “The family took her home from dinner at about 9:30 to 9:45 [p.m.]. So we would back that up to even say 9 or 8:30 p.m. to start looking.”

The sheriff also stated that there were no “red flags” about Nancy’s behavior before she disappeared. Nanos claimed that Nancy’s family members “weren’t alerted to her [missing] until about 11 in the morning” the following day, with police being called around 12:15 p.m. Authorities are currently investigating a timeline “anywhere from 9:30 p.m. to 11 [a.m.]” as the window of when Nancy went missing.
“This is an 84-year-old lady who is safe in her own home asleep, and she is taken. That should never happen,” he continued. He also added that Nancy’s health is on the line since she’s currently on medication and emphasized that the results “can be fatal.”
On Feb. 4, 2026, Annie and Tommaso were spotted for the first time driving in their car, per photos from Page Six. The night before, TMZ revealed that they had an alleged ransom note demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin. “It’s like any piece of evidence,” Nanos told CBS News. “You give it to us, you give us a lead, we’re going to look at every aspect of that lead.”
