19-year-old man arrested in Fabens shooting that killed teen
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder after a fatal shooting in Fabens, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, Jan. 29, deputies were dispatched to Fabens in response to a welfare check, after receiving reports of a person seeking help while covered in “blood and possibly armed with a handgun,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Once deputies arrived at the scene, they learned that a gunshot victim had been transported to Del Sol Medical Center and was later pronounced dead.
The victim was identified as 17-year-old Andrey Martinez.
Law enforcement presence was seen at Del Sol Medical Center, as the hospital was placed on a “precautionary lockdown” on Thursday evening, following the arrival of a patient, the hospital confirmed in a statement to KTSM.
KTSM crews at the scene captured multiple law enforcement units at the hospital’s emergency room area.
However, the hospital remained operational throughout the precautionary measures with no interruption to patient care, according to the statement.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and determined the incident happened in Fabens.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies located and detained a 19-year-old man. Detectives subsequently arrested and charged Kelvin Lee-Armenta with murder.
Lee-Armenta was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with no bond.
