What stores are open Labor Day? Lowe’s, Walmart, Target, Kohl’s and JCPenney are, but Costco is closed Monday

This Labor Day will be the last for Stein Mart, Pier 1 Imports and other stores holding going-out-of-business liquidation sales.

Other retailers also are holding sales for the holiday weekend. Labor Day is a federal holiday dedicated to the achievements of American workers and held annually on the first Monday of September.

Unlike Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving, most major retailers are typically open Labor Day with one super-sized exception. All Costco Wholesale clubs are closed Monday like they are for New Year’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

However, amid the coronavirus pandemic, what businesses will be open Monday – and their hours – can vary depending on where you live. Several will have special holiday hours and many pharmacies will be closed.
