Texas Funeral Home Worker’s Final Phone Call While Being Crushed to Death Goes to Wife’s Voicemail
Tragic Angel Rojas phoned his wife one last time as the Texas funeral home worker was being crushed to death by a concrete burial vault — but his emotional call went to voicemail.
Now, widow Natalie Rojas is left with a heartrending recording of her scared spouse’s final moments.
“He told me he wanted to go home,” Natalie recalls to WLBT. “He told me he loved me and he wanted to go home.”
Angel, 24, worked at Restland Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory in Dallas, Texas, where part of his duties involved moving the hefty vaults and their lids to burial sites.
Officials say one of the massive hunks of concrete fell and pinned the father of a 4-year-old boy to the ground from the waist down.
Angel first called authorities for help before leaving his haunting farewell to his wife.
Dallas fire officials say they required hydraulic spreaders and air bags typically used to extricate people from wrecked vehicles during the excruciating 45-minute effort to free Angel, who died at a hospital later that day.
Now, Angel’s loved ones are accusing the business of gross negligence, and Natalie is considering a lawsuit.
Family attorney Matthew Graham says, “There’s no way on earth this man should have been operating that machinery alone.
“He shouldn’t have been working alone. He shouldn’t had been moving things of that weight alone.”

A statement from Restland reads, “We are saddened by the loss of our long-standing valued employee. We are cooperating with the authorities to determine the cause.”
Natalie insists, “My husband was a smart worker. My husband knew the risk of a small error. My husband knew the precautions to everything he was doing. I don’t know what happened, but whatever did happen, he never should have been there alone.”
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the deadly incident.
