Suspects now charged – BC News

Two young men being pursued across the country by police have now been formally charged in one of three killings in Northern B.C.

Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, have now been charged with one count each of second degree murder in the death of Vancouver man Leonard Dyck, who police have just identified as the man found dead near a burned out vehicle outside Dease Lake on July 19.

Police have released a photo of Dyck and are expanding their request for information from anyone who may have spoken to him while he was travelling Northern B.C.

“We are truly heart broken by the sudden and tragic loss of Len. He was a loving husband and father. His death has created unthinkable grief and we are struggling to understand what has happened,” Dyck’s family said in a statement.

Investigations are underway in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, where suspects McLeod and Schmegelsky have been spotted. They are also wanted for questioning in the deaths of Australian Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend Chynna Deese, whose bodies were found outside Fort Nelson on July 15.

RCMP say McLeod and Schmegelsky were spotted in Meadow Lake, Sask. on July 21. The vehicle they were travelling in was then found torched the next evening in the Gillam area of northern Manitoba.

Police say the two men are considered armed and dangerous and are warning the public to call 911 immediately if they are spotted.
