Craving Taco Bell? If you’re downtown, that’s about to get easier.

Despite the rapid growth of fast food and fast-casual chains in Boston, one cult favorite that has seemed to resist invading every corner of the city is Taco Bell, which currently only has one location in Boston proper. That’s all about to change, as a new Taco Bell location is scheduled to open in Downtown Crossing.

Universal Hub previously reported that the Mexican-inspired chain will be opening at 74 Summer St. in a former Subway location. A sign posted to the window indicates that it is hiring for all shifts and all positions. The location is a highly trafficked one, though it is also filled with other fast-casual options that could provide serious competition, like Five Guys, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Noon Mediterranean.

Taco Bell did not immediately return calls to Boston.com, and an opening date has not been released.

The home of the Crunchwrap Supreme has dwindled around Massachusetts in recent years. A West Roxbury location is the only one within city limits, followed by nearby outposts in Cambridge, Quincy, Everett, and Revere. Many lamented the closing of Boston University’s Taco Bell at the base of Warren Towers in 2008, and its 2017 closing at Northeastern University.

Taco Bell is known for its indulgent creations like the chalupa supreme, cheesy gordita crunch, and MexiMelt. On Thursday, the company unveiled its 2019 U.S. commitments, which include improving recycling efforts, revealing a vegetarian menu, and ensuring that all of its beef is sustainable.
