‘I hope you’ll excuse me if I have to kill you guys’: Details of Shawano County homicide released
(WFRV) – The Shawano County man charged with homicide had his bond set at $1 million as the details of the incident were released.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Local 5, 74-year-old Brent Hofman was officially charged with homicide and attempted homicide. The criminal complaint provided details of the incident.
Shawano County Sheriff’s Office clarifies details of ongoing homicide investigation
On November 12 around 9:15 p.m. authorities got a 9-1-1 call from a person who reported a shooting. The person, also identified as a victim, said Hofman shot his friend.
This victim also said that Hofman was trying to kill him.
When authorities got to the scene, they found Hofman with lacerations on his face. The complaint said Hofman smelled of intoxicants and he had slurred speech.
Authorities later found the first victim dead inside the garage.
The other victim was interviewed by authorities who said they have never had any issues with Hofman. It was mentioned that both victims have been coming up to the hunting land for over ten years.
Hofman and the other two were sitting in the garage when Hofman put a gun on the bar top, according to the complaint. He then later picked it up and said something to the effect of ‘I hope you’ll excuse me if I have to kill you guys.’ That was according to the victim.

The victim who was shot reportedly approached Hofman before Hofman allegedly starting shooting at him.
It was mentioned that there was no reason for the actions taken by Hofman and the relationship between everyone was ‘neighborly’.

Court records show Hofman was in court on November 18 for his initial appearance. The judge ordered a one-million-dollar cash bond. He is scheduled for a status conference on January 5, 2026.
