Trump says he has a ‘big decision coming up’ on whether to ‘annihilate’ Iran

President Trump said Thursday that he is facing a major looming decision in Iran as the U.S. war in the country shows no signs of subsiding. 

“I have a big decision coming up. Do I want to go in and annihilate them [the Iranian regime] or do I not? It’s a big decision. Anything could happen with me,” Trump told Axios.

The comments come after reports surfaced that Trump is slated to meet with the leaders of six Persian Gulf nations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly next week. 

Trump’s comments also come as energy prices spike in the U.S. as a result of the conflict. 

The national average for gas prices jumped from $4.31 to $4.43 in the span of four days this week, according to AAA. Meanwhile the national average for diesel jumped 42 cents over the last week. 

The issue is putting Republicans on the defensive in the upcoming midterm elections as Democrats hammer the Trump administration over affordability. 

Trump told supporters Wednesday in North Carolina that higher gas prices are a “very inexpensive price to pay” for the war. 

“Remember that. It’s a little more. Frankly, even if it was a lot more,” Trump said at a rally for GOP Senate nominee Michael Whatley in Gastonia, N.C. 

“But that’s going to come tumbling down,” he added, referring to gas prices. “That’s going to be like rocket ships in reverse.”
