A Texas man has been accused of stabbing another man outside of a YMCA after he was allegedly instructed to do so by the victim’s ex-girlfriend who is the mother of his children.

Abel Ali Rivas was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the alleged attack on Oscar Javier Barbosa that took place on February 19.

Rivas, 27, was arrested just one month after Melanie Sierra Gomez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an attack that involved Barbosa, 32.

Barbosa shares two children with Gomez, 31, according to an affidavit obtained by KENS. However, the pair are no longer romantically involved.

At the time of the February attack, Barbosa was picking up their two children from a YMCA location in San Antonio when Rivas allegedly stabbed him.

Rivas is also an ex-boyfriend of Gomez, according to The San Antonio Express-News.

The affidavit stated that Gomez allegedly lured Barbosa out of the YMCA, where he was scheduled to pick up their children for a custody exchange. Barbosa told police he spoke to Gomez on the phone on the evening of the exchange. He arrived at the YMCA around 6:30 p.m., and claimed that Gomez told him first to go inside the building to get the children. He then said that she allegedly told him to come back outside.

At the time of the exchange, Barbosa was on the phone with his current girlfriend, per the affidavit.

Barbosa told police that Rivas was waiting for him when he exited the YMCA and said, “What’s up?” Gomez approached them soon after, while she and Rivas initiated a verbal altercation with Barbosa.

Barbosa was still on the phone with his girlfriend at the time, and she later told investigators that she heard Barbosa say, “Are you going to stab me over this?” She added that the call disconnected before the actual stabbing occurred, though she said she recognized Rivas’ voice because she was previously in a relationship with him for 10 years.

During the incident, Gomez accused Barbosa of getting his new girlfriend pregnant. She then allegedly told Rivas to “go” and to “do what you are going to do,” according to the affidavit.

Rivas then allegedly stabbed Barbosa several times in the abdomen and arms, which caused him to suffer serious but not life-threatening injuries. Police added that Gomez pinned Barbosa against a car so he could not escape while Rivas was stabbing him.

Following the alleged attack, Rivas fled in Barbosa’s car that was still running. Meanwhile, Gomez reportedly stayed for a few moments and made insults directed at Barbosa’s girlfriend before she left the scene.

Gomez was arrested a few days later and was released from the Bexar County Jail after she posted a $85,000 bond. Meanwhile, Rivas is still in custody and is being held on a total bond of $105,000, with $100,000 of the bond for the aggravated assault charge and the remaining $5,000 for a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

It is not currently clear if Gomez or Rivas have entered pleas or retained legal representation following their arrests. The San Antonio Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
