Lockdown lifted at Kansas City International Airport after evacuations; authorities say no threat
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The lockdown at Kansas City International Airport (KCI) has been lifted after authorities determined there was no credible threat.
The lockdown began Wednesday morning, airport police confirmed to FOX4.
Some people inside the airport were being evacuated at 11 a.m. as authorities said they were investigating a “potential threat.”
Jackson Overstreet, the public information officer for the city’s aviation department, said the lockdown was due to a suspected bomb being located in a bathroom by baggage claim.

As of 12:30 p.m., the city confirmed that the airport is back open and operating as normal. A spokesperson for the city shared the following statement:
“Kansas City Aviation Department became aware of a potential threat in the unsecured area of the Kansas City international Airport (MCI) terminal Wednesday Morning. Airport Police and the FBI worked quickly to evaluate the situation and ensure the safety over everyone, including evacuating travelers from the affected area of the terminal. Law Enforcement was able to determine no credible threat to the Airport or those inside the terminal at this time. Once that determination was made, KCAD staff worked to resume normal operations and minimize disruptions.”
Just before noon, travelers were able to go back through security.
