Kirk becomes a hurricane; expected to reach major hurricane strength this week

Kirk strengthened into a hurricane on Tuesday and is expected to become a major hurricane this week, the National Hurricane Center said.
Located about 1,070 miles west of Cabo Verde Islands, Kirk is moving northwest at 12 mph.
Officials ask residents to avoid these 2 Sarasota beaches
Maximum sustained winds are 75 mph. NHC forecasters predict its winds will reach 125 mph.
General motion toward the west-northwest is expected to continue through Tuesday. A turn toward the northwest is forecasted on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the NHC.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect at this time.
