Attempt Murder – Update: C22-254421
As previously released:
On October 31, 2022, at 9:06 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1200 block of Chamberlain Avenue for a report of an injured male that had been found on the ground.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim who had been stabbed and began to administer emergency medical care, including the use of a chest seal. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
An adult male suspect was located at a nearby residence and was placed under arrest. He remains in police custody at this time.
Update:
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
The victim has been identified as an 18-year-old male and remains in critical condition.
It is believed that the victim and the suspect, previously known to each other as associates, had been at the nearby residence (where the suspect was later located) when the victim was stabbed without provocation.
Eric Daniels, a 20-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Attempt to Commit Murder
– Aggravated Assault
He was detained.
Halloween Candy/Arrests – C22-254437
Update:
To date, the Major Crimes Unit received over a dozen reports from parents who found THC “Nerds” candies in their children’s treat bags after trick or treating in the South Tuxedo neighbourhood on Halloween night.
Investigators spoke to the families and determined that children between 6 and 16 had received these THC edibles. Police have recovered four packages, and investigators have made arrangements to speak with the remaining victims and recover any outstanding THC candies.


A suspect residence was identified, and a search warrant was subsequently executed in the first one-hundred block of Coleraine Crescent.
Two adults were taken into custody.
A 53-year-old female and a 63-year-old male are facing the following charges:
– Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence x 13
– Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm x 13
– Adult Distribution Cannabis to Young Person x 13
– Adult Distribution of Known Illicit Cannabis x 13
They were released on a Promise to Appear as mandated by the Criminal Code.
Parents and guardians are still encouraged to carefully check their children’s candy.
This investigation is still ongoing.

Overnight, the Winnipeg Police Service received at least half a dozen reports about THC “Nerds” candy discovered in their children’s Halloween candy. The marijuana edibles that are packaged to look like the popular candy were discovered in children’s bags after trick or treating in the South Tuxedo neighbourhood. The package indicates 600 mg of THC.
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is a substance found in Cannabis (marijuana). THC is responsible for the way your brain and body respond to cannabis which can include feeling high and intoxication. The potency of THC can vary in different products. The effects of THC on children can be harmful.
Investigators have learned that the THC edibles were packaged along with regular full-size chocolate bars in individual zip bags.
Caregivers are encouraged to check their children’s candy.
Anyone with information or wishing to make a similar report is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219.
If you have discovered a similar THC item, avoid handling the package and set it aside safely for the police.
Search Warrant – Arrests: C22-254646
In October 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Property Crime Unit began a stolen property, drug trafficking, and firearms investigation involving several individuals and a residence in the downtown neighbourhood.
On November 1, 2022, with assistance from the Tactical Support Unit and Community Support Units from the Central and East Districts, Property Crime investigators executed a search warrant on a residence in the 400 block of Langside Street. Four adults were located within the residence and safely taken into custody.
Investigators seized numerous items as evidence, including the following:
– Winchester 12-gauge Shotgun and various ammunition
– Brass Knuckles
– Switch Blade
– approximately .4 grams of Methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value = $40.00)
– Urban Volt electric assisted bicycle (reported stolen September 2021)
– Various tools/power tools
– Guitars
– Multiple high-end bicycles (believed stolen)
The total value of the recovered suspected stolen property is estimated to be over $10,000.00.
Travis Wade FERLAND, 45, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:
– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2

– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
– Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 2
– Possession of a Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
– Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 3
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 3
He was detained in custody.
A 49-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
– Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 2
– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 2
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
– Possession of a Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 2
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

– Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 2

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
She was released on an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
The Property Crime Unit is reminding the public to register or record serial numbers of household products such as electronics, power tools, bicycles, and jewelry. The documentation facilitates investigations in not only identifying victims but substantiating charges of property theft. In addition, documentation of property increases the chances of return of property to their rightful owners.
Central District Community Support Unit – Proactive Arrests: R22-57208, R22-57210 & C22-164452
In late October 2022, the Central District’s Community Support Unit began an investigation after receiving concerns from West End residents that there had been an increase in property crime in the neighbourhood.
With the assistance of General Patrol members, several proactive arrests were made.
On October 28, 2022, at approximately 4:20 p.m., officers observed a male operating a bicycle on a sidewalk contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The male was stopped and was found to have two outstanding warrants. He was arrested and had 9 grams of methamphetamine in his possession.
The bicycle he had been riding was stolen from the University of Manitoba on October 24 and will be returned to its rightful owner.
Abraham Jason Hastings, a 39-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
He was also processed on the two warrants for charges that include:
– Fail to Attend Court – Appearance Notice
– Fail to Appear Ident – Appearance Notice
He was detained.
On the same date, at approximately 5:05 p.m., officers observed a male loitering in a parking lot near Young Street and Ellice Avenue. The male attended to an SUV and began acting suspiciously.
Soon after, he gained entry to the vehicle, and officers arrested him while rummaging through it. The male initially attempted to pass himself off as his brother, but his identity was discovered, and he was found to have two outstanding warrants. He was also found to be in possession of a folding knife.
The vehicle did not appear damaged, and nothing had been taken.
Manuel Junior Ferreira, a 38-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Identity Fraud – Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
– Possession of a Weapon
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He was also processed on the two warrants for charges that include:
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
He was detained.
On October 31, 2022, at approximately 10:05 a.m., officers observed a male “masked up” in the Ellice Street and Furby Avenue area, where vehicles had been recently broken into. The male was found to be wanted on the strength of an outstanding warrant for criminal offences and was placed under arrest.
The warrant concerned an incident on July 23, 2022, where an SUV was broken into outside a shelter in the Logan–C.P.R. area. A piece of concrete was used to break one of the vehicle’s windows, and a pair of $400 shoes were stolen.
Justin Ryan Hastings, a 28-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
– Theft Under $5000
He was detained.
