Elon Musk tweets ‘cancel cancel culture’ amid ‘feud’ with Grimes’ mom

Elon Musk has called for the end of internet ‘cancel culture’ following a Twitter feud with the mother of his girlfriend, Grimes.
The billionaire Tesla founder, who welcomed a baby boy with the singer two weeks ago, tweeted the message days after Sandy Garossino accused him of ‘blaring men’s rights activist bulls**t’ on Twitter.
‘Cancel Cancel Culture!’ Musk tweeted on Tuesday. ‘More fun, less shun!’
‘Cancel culture’ refers to when people withdraw their support for a public figure after he or she says something that is perceived as problematic or offensive.
It comes hours after Garossino apparently liked – then unliked – a tweet which compared the 48-year-old tech entrepreneur to controversial rapper, Kanye West.
Garossino, a Canadian media commentator, first appeared to take aim at Musk on Sunday, after he cryptically tweeted: ‘take the red pill’ to his 34million followers.

It comes after billionaire entrepreneur Musk, who recently had a baby with Grimes, cryptically tweeted ‘Take the red pill’ to his 34 million followers on Sunday evening (Couple pictured together)
The ‘red pill’ reference originally comes from the 1999 film, The Matrix, but the phrase has since become an online meme used by the alt-right and men’s rights activists.
‘If your partner went through a challenging pregnancy and childbirth in the last two weeks, and you were over 16 years old, would you be blaring MRA bulls*** on Twitter right now?’ Garossino said in a now-deleted tweet.
Musk is yet to comment on what exactly he meant by the phrase, but responded to tweets on Tuesday asking him to confirm where he stands on the political spectrum.
‘In the interest of categorizing your statements in a Left VS Right rigid box, then immediately having half the population hate and want to cancel you & the other half of the population love you, can you please reveal in which one of those rigid boxes you fit in?’ a fan asked.
Musk replied: ‘I am … openly moderate.’
He also liked a tweet by a Tesla blogger who speculated the context of the message was likely more ‘philosophical’ than political.

The drama between Sandy Garossino and her daughter’s partner Elon Musk continued on Tuesday after she appeared to like and then unlike a tweet which compared the billionaire entrepreneur to Kanye

Kanye is known for his unpredictability and has repeatedly expressed his support for President Trump. In April 2018, the rapper even tweeted that the President was ‘his brother’ and that they both had ‘dragon energy’
Earlier, Garossino appeared to like a tweet by journalist Yashar Ali, pointing out Musk’s recent behavior on social media.
‘Elon Musk’s Twitter presence in the last few months feels very Kanye 2018,’ he wrote in reference to the Tesla founder’s ‘red pill’ tweet.
Kanye West has become somewhat of a controversial figure due to his bizarre Twitter rants over the years and his unpredictable behavior, including publicly endorsing Donald Trump.
In April 2018, the rapper even tweeted that the President was ‘his brother’ and that they both had ‘dragon energy’.
In October that year, concerns were raised that Kanye appeared ‘unhinged’ during a bizarre rant while meeting with Trump at the Oval Office. During the lengthy televised discussion, Kanye claimed he had been ‘misdiagnosed’ with bipolar disorder.
A screenshot shows that Garossino liked Ali’s tweet, before later unliking it.

Grimes’ mother Sandy Garossino has apparently slammed her daughter’s boyfriend, Elon Musk in now-deleted tweets

She also tweeted a response to Canadian activist Gerald Butts, who said: ‘Buddy has a 3 week old baby. Maybe step away from the broflakes’

Garossino previously weighed in when others were critical of Musk’s tweet, including Canadian activist Gerald Butts who tweeted: ‘Buddy has a 3 week old baby. Maybe step away from the broflakes.’
In response, Garossino tweeted that her grandson was ‘Not yet 2 weeks old’.

Musk and his partner Grimes, 32, announced the birth of their baby, which they named X Æ A-12, on May 5.
Grimes’ mother went on to retweet a post slamming the controversial reopening of Musk’s Tesla factory in California.
That tweet called for Musk to be arrested because the reopening was in defiance of coronavirus lockdown measures in California.
All her tweets related to Musk have since been deleted.
Musk’s tweet about the ‘red pill’ come from the 1999 movie The Matrix starring Keanu Reeves.
In the film, Reeves is given the choice between a red and blue pill. The red pill will allow Reeves to see the truth of things, while the blue pill allows him to go on existing in blissful ignorance.
‘You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes,’ the line from the film says.

On Sunday morning, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk posted a cryptic tweet, saying ‘Take the red pill’ with an emoji of a red rose

Musk also tweeted a meme in reference to the red pill, saying: ‘When u take DayQuil & NyQuil at the same time

Ivanka Trump then replied ‘Taken!’ to Musk’s tweet

The response prompted co-writer of The Matrix Lilly Wachowski to reply ‘F*** both of you’
While Musk’s intention behind the tweet isn’t clear, the ‘red pill’ phrase is now commonly used to show a right-wing political awakening and is used widely on online forums in support of President Donald Trump, as well as men’s rights organizations.
Musk’s tweet prompted support from first daughter Ivanka Trump who tweeted his comments and said: ‘Taken!’.
More recently the ‘red pill’ term has been used to describe the taking on of conservative values after formerly identifying with more liberal ideas.
People sometimes describe themselves as having ‘red pill moments’, ‘personal awakenings that have caused them to reject leftist narratives imbibed since childhood from friends, teachers, and the news and entertainment media,’ Fox News explains.
