Macy’s is closing 125 stores with the first locations closing soon: Is your location on the map?

Is your Macy’s store on the chopping block?

USA TODAY has pinpointed the locations of the first stores that will close in the coming weeks, which are part of a larger cost-cutting plan that includes shuttering around 125 stores over three years.

The liquidation or going-out-of-business sales have already begun at approximately 30 underperforming Macy’s stores located in “low-tier malls,” Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette said Wednesday during the retailer’s Investors Day.

The stores in the first round of closures were first announced in January and are from 19 states from California to Florida and as far west as Hawaii. One Bloomingdale’s store in Florida also is closing.

“We are making deep cuts that impact every area of our business,” Gennette said Wednesday. “These changes are painful but they are necessary.”

Macy’s has not disclosed which stores will be shut down in future rounds of closures expected to be carried out through 2022. Gennette said officials have conducted a “rigorous review” of the entire fleet and utilized a market-based approach.

This week, the retailer announced it is cutting about 2,000 positions, eliminating 9% of its corporate and support positions.
