Police recover gun taken from cop who was jumped in Bronx

Police have recovered the service gun of an off-duty cop who was jumped and robbed by three bandits in the Bronx early Sunday.

The 25-year-old cop was leaving a fund-raising event, when the men descended upon him outside a party hall on Carter Ave. near E. 175th St. in Mount Hope at about 3:40 a.m., police said.

He struggled with the trio and one bandit bashed him in the head, officials said. At one point, the gun went off, but no one was hit.

One of the crooks grabbed the gun and ran off, but cops tracked him down and took him into custody, according to police.

The suspect then led police to a spot within the borders of the 44th Precinct — which covers Concourse, Mount Eden and the area around Yankee Stadium — where the gun was stashed.

Three men attacked the cop and hit him in the head, before running off with his service weapon, according to officials.

An NYPD spokesman wouldn’t say early Monday specifically where the gun was found.

The thief remains in custody, and charges against him are pending.
