Crooks steal man’s backpack, find nearly $200G inside

Two thieves in the Bronx thought they were simply swiping a backpack from a man inside a Bronx apartment building, little did they know, the satchel had a stash of nearly $200,000 inside it, cops said Wednesday.

Police released video of the Nov. 7 robbery, which happened in a building by Prospect Ave. near E. 169th St. in Foxhurst.

The two muggers waited for the 45-year-old victim to walk down the stairs, and pounced on him just after 11 a.m., cops said.

The victim told police he was visiting his son from Africa, and had $190,400 in the bag, police sources said. It’s not clear if police are investigating the source of that alleged sum.

Cops are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at (800)-577-TIPS.
